Today was the first annual bog jog! A local run put on by SEMAP, the Tihonet Village Marketplace, and the A.D. Makepeace company to support local food and sustainable farming. That means, of course, that team I Would Eat That Off A Squirrel was there, plus one sister, ready to run, and eat. And it was wonderful. A 5k run through the woods, around a pond, and across a cranberry bog in Wareham, MA, all on a crisp September morning. And, once you crossed the finish line, you were invited to partake is what can only be called a smorgasbord of food and drink -- fresh salad fixings, smoked fish, apple cider, corn on the cob, clam chowder, and maybe some of the best grilled, sweet sausage ever. Oh, and beer. Best of all, the fresh produce in this beautiful spread was donated by many of the local farms that the runners came out this morning to support. We walked away from the run feeling happily satisfied having bog jogged for local agriculture, and contentedly full of local, delicious, snacks.
Pre bog jog game faces. Serious intimidation factor.

Excellent swag.
Mallory with Jess? Yay to your team! I want to be there for cranberry season! Years ago Wayne went to the bogs (probably with your Mom or Parker). The following week, back home in Somerville, we put up cranberry jelly. There was a shortage of canning jars that year. While searching for jars, Wayne was interviewed by a reporter about the jar shortage. Wayne tied the shortage into the US selling wheat to Russia. He appeared on the front page of the Boston Globe.
ReplyDeleteGotta love those cranberries!
Keep up the great posts, Jess, Mallory, and Zach! Love, -L
Don't sell yourself short girl, it was a five k! And we loved every k of it! Plus the food. That was my favorite part.
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute! I am in awe of your jogging! :)
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, thanks Mal! It was definitely a 5k (3ish miles), towards awesome free food. The photo is actually me and Margot (Mal's foodie sister) getting pumped to run. We chickened out before asking an innocent bystander to take a photo of all three of us pre-run, but we did all run beautifully, I must say.
