Melothria scabra

Mexican sour gherkin (melothria scabra) cucumbers. Crisp, bright, bite. Small enough to eat like popcorn; sour enough not to want to. But lovely when accompanied by mellower flavors, such as herbed goat cheese or an oil-based dressing. Keep a lookout for this heirloom cuke that is making a comeback, likely at your local farmers' market.
