Honk if you love this blog

Except don’t honk, because we won’t hear you from behind our computers as we frantically type away into the wee hours of the morning after coming home from our actual jobs, you know, the ones where we get paid. But do follow us, email us, comment, send us a smoke signal, anything, because it seems that some of you, many of you actually, are reading, and we want to hear from you. To the few people who officially “follow” this blog, we love you. To everyone else who reliably reads this blog, we love you too, and we want to know who you are. Also, for a blog that has a whopping four followers (again, we love you four people, much) we get a massive number of hits per day, so either a few of you have too much time on your hands (hey, we’re not judging) or a lot of you out there think there is something worthwhile reading here, and we’d love it if you would align yourselves with us formally. If you just don’t want to create an account to follow us, we get it, our parents haven’t even made the commitment, and we have reasonable cause to believe that they do read what we write here with some consistency (we hope!). But many of you have sent me personal messages, and these messages are along the lines of slogging through some underemployment issues yourselves, loving food, or just using food to stay connected to the people you care about, and maybe to your mental stability too, and I feel selfish keeping all of these good vibes and messages to myself.
At a lecture on Tuesday night by Ruth Reichl at the Wellfleet Congregational Church (yeah, we were really excited too), the renowned author and food critic said that what she finds most special about food is that when people sit down together to a meal, they are not only sharing food, they are sharing an acknowledgement that something meaningful is about to happen. That’s why we’re writing; yes, we do like to eat, but we also think sharing our recipes and stories in this blog space is acknowledging that we are all here to share in a certain excitement and attitude. And it would be even cooler if you, our metaphoric dinner guests, got to introduce yourselves to one another. So consider this post the nametag at your spot at the table, and wear it proudly, because we love it when you send us messages, and we think that you should share with one another too. Also, if you officially follow us, it will make us look good, and we promise not to spam you, but we will send you baked goods. Seriously. And if you do read this blog consistently, again, thank you, it means so much to us. And if you just accidentally ended up on this page because you searched Google for a squirrel recipe, we’ve surely let you down, but we hope you’ve found something to chuckle at in any case, and we thank you too for reading.

  1. Hey Jess! We love you too. We're sorry we don't comment, it's not for lack of interest and appreciation. We're shy and not as eloquent as you so we're trying to hide our bad writing. But we would also eat that off a squirrel (please include to eat off a squirrel: our fresh figs, garden tomatoes, blueberries, a matter of fact we just like to eat). Sadly, Daddy just saw a hawk eat a squirrel so he obviously wanted to eat whatever it was so much he just ate the squirrel too. -Your friends in North Carolina
